  Sa Karnali… the video
Sa….The Song

Music when performed properly can resemble it’s root – and that is exactly what Nepathya has been successful in doing with their songs in the past.
The opening track of their album ‘BhedaKoo Oon Jasto’ , Sa… Karnali is an example.
It can take you to a journey of Dolpa and it’s surroundings.

This quality of Sa… has now been further enhanced in visuals, with a music video put up.
The visualisation of this song in this remote and picturesque location of Dolpa has certainly added dimensions to the song and to the place as well.

Sa… is a folk melody (Bhaka) originating from the mid-hills area of Karnali, mainly around Dolpa district.
This song was collected by a Dolpa Local – Laxmikanta Upadhyaya.
This song is a mixture of the Deuda and the Jhyaure rhythm still in practice in Dolpa District of Western Nepal.

Sa… The Music Video

Sa…. the music video was filmed in Dolpa – mainly in and around Jufal, Dunai, and Phoksundo Lake. Bhushan Dahal of Kantipur TV, probably the most sought after Music Video Maker, had undertaken the job of making it and he has once again proven his Numero Uno status with the making of this video.

Another major attraction of the video remains in forms of the principal characters of the video – Thinle, and Amrit Gurung of Nepathya himself.

Thinle the charismatic actor of The Caravan fame, faced the camera for the first time after his début in the Oscar nominated – Caravan.

Upon nepa~laya’s coordination and initiation, DDC – Dolpa had joined hands to make this project happen. DDC – Dolpa believes the release of this video will promote the beauty of Dolpa amongst the audience.

nepa~laya and Nepathya feels music has the power to advocate and promote. In this case Nepathya is glad its song is being used to promote a special place of the Nation – Dolpa.

The Album – Bhedako Oon Jasto

Nepali Folk melodies from the hills of Nepal have been the lifeblood of Nepathya and – Nepathya has always learnt to deal with it in its own unique style.
Improvising them without hurting it’s original feelings is a trick Amrit Gurung has under his sleeves. This can be experienced in this album – to an even greater extent.
This album is a result of a long and an intense research.

A documentary film following one of Nepathya’s research process – “Bheda ko Oon Jasto… in search of a song…”, has been well recognised and also been an award winning one.

This album – is a compilation of 11 songs – which can be considered as a musical representation of The Present Nepal – in terms of both geography and the social context.

Melodies of the 5 folk songs presented are taken from places like:
Dolpa, Karnali (Sa Karnali) – Dailekh (Yanimaya) – Kaski (Taalko Pani)
Rasuwa, Langtang (Bhedako Oon Jasto) – Tamor (Pani Tire Tire).

The Socio-economic and political situations that we live with effects artiest and their creations as well. This can be observed in this album as well.
Simanama deals with the frustration of a general citizen towards the socio-political situations finally leading one to adopt migration for living, while Samsajhaim deals with the feeling of insecurity amongst the Nepalese at this time of civil war, but we still see a ray of hope in this time of national distress - Rangeen Chara.

An attempt to revive old forgotten songs is something Nepathya has been often doing.
One such successful example was Deurali Group’s “Chari Maryo Sisaiko Golile” – included Nepathya’s their 3rd album - Min Pachasma.
This time it is - a close to 50-year-old song by Kala Nath Adhikari (Nidari).
The other two songs (Sano Kura and Choto Geet) are the artists’ personal expression on life and relationships.

In brief - A complete album to represent a nation and the time it lives under.
Thus with this album – Nepathya starts it’s journey into the genre of World Music.

Welcome to the voyage of World Music with our own Nepathya.
