Ambar Gurung Visits 'People After War' Photo Exhibit in NepalgunjNepalgunj, 9th Dec 2009 Noted Nepali singer Ambar Gurung, who composed the music of Nepal's new national anthem visited the 'People After War'' photo exhibition in Nepalganj Tuesday. Gurung, who was in Nepalganj for his own Paleti concert tour carefully read every caption and looked visibly moved. "I am inspired to make a musical composition in support of peace and reconciliation," the frail 73-year-old singer said.

People After War is the third in a trilogy of books on the war that focuses on the civilians who were caught up in the conflict and their continued suffering. The exhibition tour of the country brings the photo essays from the book to a wider public. Earlier, inaugurating the exhibition in Nepalganj, the book's editor Kunda Dixit said the follow-up stories showed the long-term physical and psychological impact of the conflict especially on the non-combatants. "The stories help strengthen the nationwide peace constituency, and hopefully it will also warn political forces in this country how dangerous it will be if the 10-year class war metamorphosed into multiple ethnic wars," Dixit said. More than 90,000 people have seen the exhibition in Itahari, Ilam, Damak, Hetauda, Kawasoti and Nepalganj, and it will be shown in Tansen on Friday and Saturday. The exposition is also on permanent exhibit at Madan Puraskar in Patan [ Detail ]

People After War' Photo Exhibition Tour Heads WestKawasoti, 6th December 2009, Sunday Hounded by hurdles on highways, nepa-laya's 'People After War' nationwide photo exhibition was held in Kawasoti of Nawalparasi on Saturday and Sunday. The exhibition contains follow-up photo-essays on the relatives of the victims of war contained in the original book, 'A People War', and visitors were visibly moved as they read the stories. Braving a series of bandhs and a bridge collapse along the East-West Highway, the tour is now headed towards western Nepal. "I just couldn't stop my tears," said Kawasoti-based activist Belauti Devi Khanal, who herself was detained and tortured by the army during the war. "Only those who lived through it know what it was like, this exhibition helps others to understand our suffering and sorrow." Radio Madhyabindu broadcaster Pushpa Tiwari agreed. "I cried when I watched the first exhibition here in Kawasoti three years ago because I myself was displaced by the war. But seeing how the ordinary people affected by the conflict have survived and are full of hope for the future made me optimistic also." "People After War' follows people like Maoist guerrilla Juna Rai whose brother was in the army, a vigilante in Rupendehi who turned into a sadhu after the war, and a policeman killed in action whose daughter was a Maoist. UML district committee member Tilak Mahat praised the exhibition tour for helping to strengthen the peace process. "This is very patriotic work, it unites the Nepali people and helps build peace." "With this, Paleti enters a new horizon and the travel editions will now be called - PaletiYarta." says Aavaas, coordinator of Paleti. Paleti, is a nepa~laya initiated micro event series started in 2003. It has been presenting singers, musicians, and lyricists of Nepali Adhunik from Nepal and beyond to the Nepali audience. Creators as far as from Manipur, Assam, Bhutan and Darjeeling have performed for Paleti along with artists from Nepal. "My affiliation with Paleti has been a great experience and I credit Paleti for working as a medium of resurrection for Nepali Adhunik ." Says Ambar Gurung as he rehearses with the Paleti musician. "Pokhara was a memorable experience, I do look forward to Narayangad and Nepalgunj." he adds. The Narayangad show which is being locally hosted by Synergy FM - will be held at Kitchen Cafe Venue in Narayangad on 6th Dec. 2009, and the Nepalgunj show being hosted by Antaral will be held at Hotel Siddhartha View on 8th Dec.
